Cross Lake vacation

Bill and I recently spent a much-needed retreat at the huge lake home of Diane and Kevin's friends on Cross Lake. On the way there we met our friend Roxie and her two kids and ate lunch at the "Deerstand," a new restaurant in a old church that has been renovated just outside of Deerwood. At Cross Lake, we settled in, took walks, read and watched a couple of really good DVDs - "Radio" and "Shall We Dance" in the evenings. On a Sunday afternoon we had a long and pleasant visit with Pastor Norman (our former pastor) and his wife, Mildred, at their summer home on Kimball Lake. That evening, Diane and Kevin and the girls arrived. We spent a couple more days with them and of course, went to the ice cream store and gift shop. They stayed on after we left. One rainy, cloudy day we were rewarded by the sun's last gasp just before it disappeared for the night.

Didn't feel today's shaker either

Okay, so there was another earthquake this afternoon. I didn't feel that one either, but it is a little strange that these relatively strong quakes are coming so frequent this week.

That's life in California, but no tornadoes

Well, I felt the 5.6 quake last Sunday morning, but not the one in Northern California. It's a big state, after all. The one I felt started out as a little rumble, and then a short, sharp sideways motion, all in about 5 seconds. They rattle your nerves more than anything. And as far as a tsunami, I'm on the high ground here so I won't be heading for the hills if I hear a warning.

What's shakin, David?

Trip to South Webster, Ohio

Kevin, Katie and Sara took off this morning (Saturday, June 11) for South Webster, Ohio in southern Ohio on the Kentucky border. They're on a mission trip with the REACH program (www.reachwc.org) and they'll be doing fix-up projects for residents of the area who aren't able to do it themselves. Pray for them. There are 14 high school students and six adults from our church headed there. They'll stay in Ottawa, IL tonight and arrive at the REACH camp Sunday afternoon. From there, they'll work hard in the heat/rain/sun each day until Friday and head back home Saturday and Sunday. I might be able to find some pictures of them working throughout the week from the website and will post them if I spot them. Sara's only been gone from home for 1-2 days at a time (never went to camp, other mission trips, etc.) so this will be a new experience for her.

Some Spring Pictures

Here are a few spring pictures from our family. You've probably already seen them, but this way you won't have to go digging for them (like through the hundreds of pictures on the Lutheran High website). Enjoy!
